Great Wooden News:

The CD is the best of a bunch of good news these days.

The heavy weight champion of Milton
Kevin Morse, has started hosting a weekly song writers circle every Wednesday night at Brydens Pub downtown Milton. If you are ever in the area you should really check it out. Look for members and friends of the GWT to be trying out new material!

Congratulations to our Web Master, Artistic Director and Rhythm Section Greg Woods (he is all three) for completing a year of full time studies at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education - University of Toronto.
After a long hard year of work, he is ready for a long hot summer of touring!

As spring sprung, our resident rock star Jeff Bersche made his fourth trip to Ottawa for the Annual Canadian Improv Games. He led a team through workshops, performances and competitions and generally painted the town red...and I mean red.

Finally, Brad Woods will be working with the folks at the Bookshelf in Guelph to produce a monthly in-store Song and Story series. They have already confirmed guests for May 6 and June 10 so grab a coffee, grab a friend, grab a seat and enjoy the show!

The CD release tour was incredible, from surprise guests in Milton, to a
duet at the Museum that blew me away to a packed house in Toronto! So good
in fact that two Storytelling groups have had us add dates in Baden and

June 12, 2007 - Emma's Back Porch (resteraunt/bar) - Burlington

May 25 2007- Hal's Ballroom - Toronto
This is a great place to check us out if in you're in the Toronto area. It's one of our favorite places in the city and we haven't even been there yet! It's a ballroom underneath a burger emporium - what's not to like?

April 16 2007 - Montrest School - Toronto
We are coming back to Montcrest! though it is a semi private event, it is worth writing about. We have been invited back to perform for the students at Montcrest. It was a hoot last time, and since then Brad and Greg's neices have been attending...see you there Maya Papaya and Stella Boom Boom !

April 13 2007 - West Side Theater - Hamilton
We have been invited to share the stage with some incredible artists this night. It will be us, Jacob Moon (whom we have long adored) an act called Us2 and a group called hewit. We've not yet heard hewit but we are sold based on their site! As if this isn't enough, the evening is the second annual IMPACT AFRICA event raising money and support for those in Africa suffering from the ravages of Aids. There will be an art auction as well.
We are absolutely thrilled to be a part of this event!!

April 11 2007 - By Word of Mouth - Guelph Civic Museum - Guelph

This is the second annual  storytelling festival/event put on by the Museum and the Guelph Guild of Storytellers. Should be fun. An afternoon full of stories for kids, then an evening concert for adults featuring our very own Brad Woods and good friend of the Trio Mary Eileen McClear.

March 25 2007 - Chapters - Thunder Bay
To cap off the "1 city, 2 days, 3 guys 4 shows" tour we did a show at Chapters. It was a good one! They set us up in front of a fire place, the St.Arbucks was flowing, what started as a crowd I could hold in my hand turned into a full room thanks to Greg's wicked sick beats drawing them all in!

March 24, 2007  - Hope Church - Thunder Bay

We will be flying into the Lakehead at the end of March for our first
show ever in North Western Ontario! This is a new city for us so we figure it's a great opportunity to try out some new songs and stories. Though not all the details are confirmed, we are hoping to use Led Zeppelin's old jet to get there.
We'll also be at the Hoito the next morning!

Saturday March 24 2007 - Hull Bookstore - Thunder Bay
We will be doing an in store demo, a mini acoustic concert to help promote our show later that day. It'll be a great way to meet some people and try to build interest in our performance. Even as I write this I can't help but think of Del's Stereo and Sound on WKRP.

March 3, 2007 - Orillia Opera House - Orillia

We have been invited to perform at a fund raiser at the historical Orillia Opera House. This is a beautiful room in a wonderful town an hour and a half north of Toronto. As a group of writers, musicians and storytellers it is an honour to play in the home town of Stephen Leacock, Gordon Lightfoot and Muray Rodger!

Jan  27, 2007 - Woolwich Arms - Guelph. WILLY AT THE WOOLY!
We are back at the Wooly, Guelphs best pub by far, as part of the "Shakespeare:Made In Canada" festival. It will be a typical GWT evening of  songs and stories with a Shakespearian twist!  Cool eh?

January 18, 2007 - GYMT - Guelph
The songs and stories of the Great Wooden Trio featured will be included in a public launch as part of GUELPH SPEAKS! A graduate studies joint project of the Theatre and English Department at the University of Guelph. Brad will be on hand to
share a tale!

Here's some news that's kind of cool. The folks at Windborne Productions are making a documentary about...Truth! (honestly they are) and they want to use the songs and stories of the GWT to create a thread of consistency in the film.
At this point we're assuming they are going to have Kevin lip sync Brad's stories.
It just makes sense for a visual medium doesn't it?

Dec 21, 2006-Harrop House Restaurant and Gallery - Milton
Private party right in Milton, part of the home town tour!

Dec 10, 2006- Milton Bible Church - Milton
We are doing our third annual Christmas concert at MBC! I am writing this in Aug, and I can't imagine doing a Christmas show, however I heard an incredible legend about St. Nicholas this summer from a French Canadian storyteller that I would love to include in our show...hmmm...

Dec 9, 2006 - Valley View Alliance - New Market
This is our second Annual Christmas concert at Valley View, brought to you by the one and only Cliff Cline. Cliff is very serious about promoting and putting on quality performances and we are all quite excited to work with him again.

Dec 2, 2006- St. Georges Square - Downtown Guelph (4-7pm)
This is is an annual celebration downtown Guelph to kick off the Christmas season. They have asked us to open up the whole event! Should be cool. I've been told there will be stilt walkers, fire throwers and local dignitaries lighting our Christmas tree.  Nothing says Merry Christmas like a fire thrower!

Nov 11, 2006 - LA Storytelling Festival - Los Angeles

Although this is not a complete GWT show and only a Storytelling oportunity it is none the less, Los Angeles! When you are invited to LA you just gotta post it on line! I am one of 12 performers being featured at the event, but what's better is I'll be able to live large for 36 hours in the city of Angels with our man Spake in So Cal.
This trip is being made possible by our friends at IMAGO!

Nov. 7, 2006
An IMAGO Evening at Enoch Turner School House - TORONTO

We have had a relationship with the good folks at IMAGO for sometime now, they have continued to be great supporters of what we do. This evening is a variety of visual and performing arts in a historic old school house just east of Parliment and King.

Oct 28, 2006 - Saturday Night @ Unionville Alliance - Unionville
We did a show here a few years ago and they have invited us back! It is a big room, and they draw a big crowd to these events, and we all remember this being the best sound we've ever had! Come on out, we'll be showcasing some new stuff, and  recording it for a live disc!

Oct 12, 2006 - Brock University - Hamilton
Ten years ago if I told my Mom I'd be lecturing at a University she would have laughed in my face (see my Mom on our contact page) however - I have been asked to talk about storytelling to students in the English dept.  At this point it is just me but I am still trying to get the other 3 involved.

Oct 7, 2006 - Brant Storytelling Festival - Brantford

This is the way guys like us should get gigs. While telling stories at the Toronto Storytelling Festival we were invited to the Brant Storytelling Guild's festival in Brantford! This is proof that the oral tradition and word of mouth is still alive. Brantford is a beautiful place to be in the fall, so come out and spend the day.

 Oct 1, 2006 - CMOM - New York City
Back in the Big Apple! A whole day of stories in the heart of Manhattan, what could be better!?!? It is a nice feeling to be invited back anywhere but i mean really - New York - if you can make it there you can make it anywhere!

Sept 22, 2006 - World Vision Fundraiser, Lakeside Church - Guelph
We are the evening entertainment at an event for Child Sponsorship. It is an honour to be a part of such an important event.

Sept 21, 2006 - Cox Creek Winery - Guelph
This oughta be good - we are playing at a private function for a bunch of principals and administrators from the Upper Grand District School Board - potentially these are people that could fire Bersh and I!!! It's a private event, however if anyone is keen on attending we will sneak you in as Morey's hair stylist.

Sept 10, 2006 - Eden Mills Writers Festival
If you know nothing about this festival go to the site, it is unbelievable! It is in a tiny little village between Milton and Guelph. Events are literaly held in backyards and river banks. They sell out quick as they bring in Canada's greatest authors. (This year they are featuring Margeret Atwood)  We have been asked to host a stage Sunday afternoon, doing songs and stories between each author. Very exciting!

Aug 21, 2006 - Natasha's Cafe - Lexington Kentucky
This is the start of the USA TOUR, there is only three dates, and they are three months apart, but still it's Storytelling in 3 major American cities so what else would you call it?

June 25, 2006 - The Toronto Roots Festival

We will be performing at the Pure Spirits Stage in the heart of Toronto's Historic Distillery District.  A free concert for all on a hopefully sunny Sunday afternoon. Come down, have a beer and enjoy the show!

July 28-30, 2006 - Hillside Festival Guelph
This is quickly becoming one of the best loved festivals in Canada. The line up this year is incredible, and we have been offered a great slot on the spoken word stage!
While we will, obviously, be the hi-lite of the entire weekend, we encourage anyone reading this to stick around for the whole event. Sarah Harmer and Feist aren't bad
either.
